AV Retriever Working Tests – Novice & Open –  Sunday 24th April 2022 at Park House, Sandford, West Felton, Oswestry by kind permission of the landowners Mrs Clare Harris and Mr Simon Harris and Mr Nigel Whittingham who let us use his farm buildings.

Lots of thanks to begin with:

Our sponsors are Skinners Dog Foods & thanks to them for their continued support.

My thanks go to our judges, John Yarwood, Glenys Caldwell, Gill Awty and Garry Ellison (who stepped in at the last minute when our 4th judge had to stand down due to ill health) – for giving up their time on the day. My chief steward was Dr Malcolm Awty and he did a fantastic job.

Thanks to all the committee members – Grace and Chris Brown in particular and Jane Holmes who did the raffle. Big shout out to my team of stewards, dummy placers & throwers who kept the day running smoothly – we couldn’t do it without you! And thanks to all the competitors too for supporting the club. I hope you enjoyed your day.

Open Show  29/05/2022  – our first time at Shrewsbury Sports Village, SY1 4RQ.

Our first show since before Covid lockdown.

Very pleased with the entry – 249 dogs were entered, 60 absentees.

11 judges (2 were rolled forward from shows which had to be cancelled). 10 stewards.

A total of 9 non-committee members helped in one role or another on the day.

Thank you to everyone, your help was essential in the running of the show.

We had asked the venue to prepare packed lunches for our committee, stewards and helpers.  This worked well, we collected them in the morning, then gave them out as and when people were ready to eat.  A judge’s area had been taped off.

Numerous positive comments on the day and afterwards: exhibitors loved the venue, they said it was easy to find, plenty of parking, lots of lovely places to walk their dogs outside, spacious inside, large rings, plenty of room to set up and spread out.

Thank you to our President Mark Cuthbert-Brown for the beautiful, engraved crystal bowl which was won outright by the BIS winner.  Generous sponsorship was received by Skinners, Petcetera and BASC.  Midland Counties Canine Society had donated a free entry to their Champ show to our BIS and BPIS.  7 Breed Clubs supported our classes by donating cash for prizes and money towards rosettes.

The raffle made £158 for our charity.
