January 2021 Newsletter

A message from the Chairperson

What a year 2020 was and I think we are all grateful for leaving it behind.  I don’t believe anyone could have foreseen what was about to hit us just a year ago, and what a huge challenge it would bring to Shows, Seminars, Working Tests and Trialling in Shropshire and elsewhere.

However, much more important was the effects of COVID-19 on individuals and their families and I, and my colleagues, would wish to extend our concerns and condolences to those who have been severely affected.

During the year we had to cancel Working Tests and Shows due to the restrictions of social distancing and ultimately limits on groups coming together for an event, even though it would be held outdoors.

Also, despite immense efforts to organise Spaniel and Retriever Trials in the Autumn 2020 it proved to be too great and too risky a challenge. I feel it was correct to cancel our Spaniel and Retriever Trials although there was a financial cost to the Club.  I wish to thank those members of the Club who put in so much time and effort, endeavouring to hold those trials but sadly came to nothing in the face of mounting health pressures.

I wish to thank Nick, our Spaniel Trials Secretary, who left the Club in the Autumn of 2020.  I also think Grace and Chris deserve heartfelt thanks for essentially managing the Club on their own and I know they have invested a lot of their time and efforts during the season.

Sadly, nothing much to report about 2020 and just to wish all my colleagues and members a healthy 2021 and do please stay safe.

 Dr Malcolm Awty.

From the Secretary

Unfortunately, 2021 has started with the same level of uncertainty that 2020 ended with, as we are now in another period of national lockdown.
