NOVICE A V Retriever results Checkley, 9th Oct
No Awards made except Guns Choice David Jackson and Shipka Birchwood
Thanks judges Kevin Brady, Alan Fryer, Nicola Reynolds and Dave Kirkby who gave all the dogs a fair chance to prove themselves. The guns were able to drop plenty of partridge and pheasant, thanks to our host Ivor Beavis who runs the shoot. The day was warm and dry with a breeze which we would think were ideal conditions for scent, but maybe the roots and ground were just too dry, as several dogs were unable to find the retrieve. We had two dogs left in for a 3rd run but they both failed on a bird that the judges walked out and picked up seemingly easily, which left us unable to make any awards. Thanks to all the helpers it was still an enjoyable day and I am sure many of the dogs will fare better another time. Our raffle for the Therapy Dogs charity raised a great £71.

OPEN AV RETRIEVER TRIAL, Acton Round, October 2018
1st Nicola Reynolds with Waysgreen Comet, winning their first Open Trial and taking the Artistry Trophy
2nd and Guns Choice Stuart Arch and Gwynteg Fyne who took home our prized Presidents Award of an engraved goblet and tot of whiskey.
3rd Robert Daws with Derrity Mustard of Balswad
Thanks to judges Steve Ashby, Tim Shipp, Glenys Caldwell and Helen Goodwin who had a difficult job separating out the winners with 8 dogs still in the line, on top marks, at the lunch break. The day was a perfect autumn day with a light breeze and it was testing on a natural shoot day and we thank the Acton Round Shoot and guns for their generosity and patience in allowing us to run our day with them. All dogs showed their steadiness in line and were given some long retrieves on the new drilled and stubble fields. Many thanks to all the helpers without which we couldn’t run the day especially our spotters (Leigh Jackson who came as first reserve but worked hard all day, Malcolm and Trevor) and my fellow steward Gill Awty. The spotters need eyes like hawks to keep track of birds down from the 8 guns. Jane Holmes who marshalled the gallery on the long walks over the lovely shoot ground and Lisa Beeston who was our official picker up and also produces the lovely home-made goody bags as gifts for our judges. The raffle raised £81 for our charity Therapy Dogs. Many thanks to our sponsors Skinners Pet foods.

NOVICE Cocker trial Oct 2018
1st EPISCOPI BO JANGLES, owned and handled by Anita Jones.

2nd CAERFYRDDIN BLACK JACK, owned/handled by Lindsay Corbett.

3rd and Guns Choice BISHWELL BOUNTY, owned/handled by Ashley Jakubowski.

Judges Gareth Davies and Roger Shepard had a full card of 16 dogs who showed their hunting skills in woodland covered in bramble and bracken. Thanks to Ted the keeper and the Buildwas Shoot team for allowing us on the excellent ground with an abundance of good birds. Stops kept birds in front of the dogs right to the end of the wood. They flew well and each dog had a timely a retrieve. Our guns, Ben, Jonathon, Steve and Lawrence were on form as usual. Thanks to our sponsors “Skinners”. The raffle raised £61 for our charity Therapy Dogs

A.V. Spaniel NOVICE 17th Nov at Tregynon.

  1. and Guns Choice Presidents Award HELMSWAY HELMER, Craig Atkinson. 2. BISHWELL BLANCHE OF ENDASHAW, Lindan Jones. 3. CRECCAMARSH VIRTUE, Richard Biggs. 4. DURNBRIGG BUTTERCUP, Stuart Lee. COM’s -BOGGWATER CHARLTON STAR OF ONCOTE, Dave Gallimore The trial was held at Tregynon by kind invitation of James Shearer. Judges Will Clulee and Derek Lee had 15 ESS’s and one Cocker who all worked to a high standard. It was a mizzley start weather-wise; but the ground is a super mix of rushes, bracken and white grass with patches of gorse. Lots of birds, too many for some of the dogs!! Skies gradually cleared, and the trial finished in bright sunlight revealing the stunning views across the hills. Winners were decided after the judges called for a run off between 1 and 2. Thanks to the guns, Johnathon, Ben, Mark and Daniel who shot well for the dogs and to young Jack Shearer who acted as steward of the beat, stewards Ken Jones and Nick Powell and to our sponsors “Skinners”, not forgetting the lovely cakes by Jayne Cuthbert-Brown. The raffle raised £48 for our charity.

A.V. OPEN SPANIEL (Ex Cocker) 4th December at Tregynon.
A lovely crisp, bright day for our last trial this season on the Heath. Also, the last trial for our hard-working secretary Dave Bishop who is passing on the reins to Nick Powell. Dave has been our secretary for 10 years and has organised some super trials, good ground, excellent judges and all the organisation sorted behind the scenes but we won’t be letting all his experience go as he will still stay on our committee to help and advise, a huge thanks to Dave from us all.

1. TREGEREST LUCKY, Aubrey Ladyman.

2. CORNERMARSH CHARISMA, David Horseman.

3. MEGANS BROOK, Michael Soroka.

4. SHELLSPOON TIME TO SHINE, Andrew Faulkner.

GUNS CHOICE Presidents Award BARACUDWEN MINTY, Richard Wells.

The trial was by kind invitation of James Shearer and the day was very ably run by young Jack Shearer. Judges Carl Colclough and Steve Roberts had travelled along way but were rewarded by some excellent dog work on this super ground of rushes, bracken and white grass with patches of gorse with game coming to hand for each dog in good order. Winners were decided after the judges called for a run off for the top awards. Thanks to the guns, the usual suspects joined by Ken Jones today, who all shot exceedingly well for the dogs so that we were finished in good time. Thanks to all the helpers and to stewards Grace Brown, Nick Powell and to our sponsors “Skinners.”. Thanks Jane and Gill for their great work parting people from their money, the raffle raised £43 for our charity.

SKINNERS remain one of our main sponsors and have kindly provided prizes for all our field trials. Laura Peakman, Skinners representative for our area, remains extremely supportive to us and again we offer our thanks to her and to Skinners.
