The test was held on an extensive bracken bank with lots of natural game scent which was perfect for testing the hunting of all the dogs. Weather was also kind with cool but dry conditions and a light breeze.
Once again, a big thank you to our sponsors Skinners, especially Laura Peakman who provided the Certificates and Dog food vouchers for 1st, 2nd & 3rd in both novice and open tests. Also all the people who helped make the day go so smoothly.
The raffle raised a great £69 for our chosen charity this year “Therapy Dogs”.
Annual Retriever Novice and Open Working Test
Went ahead on Saturday 7th April, at the Walford Campus of the North Shropshire Agricultural College near Shrewsbury, despite the recent heavy rain and flooding. The adverse conditions providing several challenges in the week leading up to the Test as well as on the day. Thanks to Paul Tranter (Shoot Captain) for your help with the ground.
We had 4 tests for each class. Those competing in the Novice had particularly challenging wet conditions with very heavy rain. The Open fared slightly better as the rain eased off.
Thank you to our Judges for their dedication to the sport …………..standing for several hours without shelter. Changes of clothing at lunchtime were the order of the day! Mr Tim Brain Ms Clare Wood Mr Leigh Jackson Mr Warren Jones. Thank you to our HELPERS who made the day possible ……. again some of them standing in the driving rain for several hours.

OPEN SHOW MAY 2018
Lucky we had a good spacious hall for the Open Show today as it was wet, thunder and lightning outside. BIS judge was Chris Hastings “Bardings”.

Puppy Group 3 Davey’s Sussex Sp Eald Village Scandal. Puppy Group 4 Wall’s Hungarian Vizsla Piroseg Mandarin of Perllanside. The show had an excellent entry of 225 dogs including 8 NFC, making 297 entries.
The weather was very wet and so we used the sports hall for the show. There were several positive comments about there being plenty of space and that the rings were large. We ran a successful eye testing clinic in one of the college buildings, with BVA eye panellist Mrs Jill Hubbard BVetMed CertVOphthal MRCVS officiating. 44 dogs attended to have their eyes tested.
